One of my first rockets, this one flies like small, sleek and a great bird.
This is the first rocket I painted using a "spit" to rotate the bird and eliminate any paint runs while it dried. Man this thing shines!

SIZZLER KIT
Fresh out of the bag, everything is here. I have my new fin alignment guide (in yellow) ready to use for the first time, too.

FIN ASSEMBLY
Using the rocket tube holder that came with the fin alignment guide, the fins are drying in place. The fin alignment jig puts these fins on perfectly straight. A must have if you've never used one.

FIN FINISHING
I did a horrible job with the wood filler I decided to use for the filler on the fins and root fillets. Fortunately, this MINWAX stuff sands wonderfully.
|
|
BODY FINISHING
See how smoothly the fins turned out? Decided to use it (much lighter application this time) on the whole body tube to eliminate the swirls.

ROCKET ON THE GRILL
Ready to paint, here she is on the "spit".

SPINNING AWAY
The nose cone and the rocket spinning in place after the second coat of gloss black.

|
THIRD COAT
Almost done.

PAINT CURING
We'll wait a week before putting the decals on the fins and applying a light top coat over them. But this girl shines in the sun!
